Taking a picture of a print? Lay it flat by a window in daylight and turn off the flash, so there's no glare.

How to fix a torn or ripped photo

  1. Lay the pieces face up on a dark sheet, pushing the torn edges together as closely as you can. Do not tape them.
  2. Scan or photograph the whole photo from directly above in even light.
  3. Drop the image into the box above; scratch and tear repair is already switched on.
  4. Compare with the slider and download the mended photo.

What can be mended

Why not tape it first?

Clear tape yellows, catches light in a scan and eventually damages the emulsion. Laying the pieces together under a sheet of glass, or simply carefully side by side, gives a cleaner scan and keeps the original safe. Store the pieces in an acid-free envelope afterwards.

Badly damaged prints

If the photo is also cracked, crumbling or stained, ✦ Deep repair (credits and Pro) repaints the damaged areas while keeping faces as they were.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to scan the pieces separately?

No. Scan them together in their right positions, as one image. The AI works on the whole picture at once.

What if part of a face is missing?

Small gaps can be filled convincingly. If a large part of a face is gone, the AI cannot know what was there; a professional retoucher with other photos of the person is the better choice.

Do you keep my photos?

No. Your photo is processed by our AI provider and deleted within an hour. We never store, view or train on your photos.
