Taking a picture of a print? Lay it flat by a window in daylight and turn off the flash, so there's no glare.

How to colorize black and white photos

  1. Scan the print or take a straight, well-lit phone picture of it (no flash, avoid glare).
  2. Drop the photo into the box above and pick what to fix.
  3. Wait 10–60 seconds while the AI restores it.
  4. Drag the slider to compare, then download the restored photo.

How AI colorization works

The colorizer was trained on millions of color photos. It recognizes skin, sky, grass, fabric and wood and predicts the colors they most likely had, while keeping every detail of your original black-and-white image.

The colors are a well-informed guess, not a record of the past: a dress may come out blue when it was green. For family photos that is usually enough to make faces feel alive again.

Frequently asked questions

Is the colorizer free?

Yes, you can colorize 2 photos a day for free without signing up. Credits and Pro add more photos and 4× enlargement.

Are the colors historically accurate?

No AI can know the real colors. It predicts likely colors from what it learned, which works well for skin, sky and plants but can differ for clothes and cars.

Can I colorize a photo that is already in color but faded?

Use the restore option without "Add color": sharpening and enhancement bring back contrast. Colorizing is meant for black-and-white images.
